You want to learn more about it. That’s why you’re here.

In this article, I reveal in detail, what affiliate marketing is and, what it takes to succeed as an Affiliate Marketer.

So, what is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is a business model that entails recommending helpful products to people who need them and can afford to pay for them.

Things to note from this definition:

  1. You recommend – just like a medical doctor prescribes medication for their patients. This means that you identify (or in medical terms, diagnose) someone’s ailment, then prescribe a solution to that problem (whatever product you’re selling). So, Affiliate Marketing is all about helping people solve their pressing needs. This is a noble calling!
  2. The product/service you’re recommending must be helpful. Man is inherently selfish and self-centered. If what you’re selling is not helping them make more money, travel abroad, avoid a particular pain, feel more confident, live healthier lives, etc. THEY WILL NOT BUY. The more helpful a product is; the more sales you’ll make.
  3. Recommend helpful products to people who need them. I’m talking about targeting here. The weather is hot now. What do you think will happen if you decide to sell hot tea in traffic? What if you sell cold bottled water instead?  To succeed in affiliate marketing, don’t tell the market what to buy. Find out what the market needs and give it to them- at a profit though 😉
  4. If they don’t have money, don’t sell to them. This might sound harsh, but, it’s the truth. Selling to people who cannot afford your products is quite simply a waste of time. That someone likes or genuinely needs what you’re selling does not mean that the person can afford it. Think of the things you need now that you can’t afford. You see, no amount of advertising will put the money for them in your pocket to buy them. Even in economics, there’s the concept of demand and effective demand. Demand is ‘I need this thing’ effective demand is ‘I need this thing and I’m willing and able to pay for it’.
  5. The product you will sell must not be yours. All you need to do is pick a proven product you’re sure people are buying, sell it and, get paid.

Now that you know what affiliate marketing is, it is important to also know what affiliate marketing is not:

  1. Affiliate Marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. There is no easy way of making money on earth. Affiliate Marketing is not an exception to this rule. If you want to get rich via Affiliate Marketing, you must be ready to work hard. So, if you’re looking for quick money, stop reading this article now. You’re in the wrong place. But, if you’re ready to put in the work, keep reading.
  2. It’s not about posting your affiliate links. E shock you? You heard that right. You don’t succeed as an affiliate by spreading your affiliate links everywhere like a hoodlum. You will only succeed in annoying people and embarrassing yourself. In this post, I will show you how to make clean money as an affiliate without embarrassing yourself in the name of sharing your link.
  3. Affiliate marketing is not network marketing. Some people think that affiliate marketing is the same thing as network marketing a.k.a. multi-level marketing (MLM). Don’t worry, it’s not GNLD or Longrich. You don’t have to bring two people who will in turn bring two people… Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate network marketing. All I’m saying is that network marketing and affiliate marketing operate different business models.

Moving on, Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory said that “when purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable”. Question is, why should you become an affiliate marketer. What’s in it for you?

  1. Opportunity to build a hot audience. Who audience help? you ask. Here is the thing. People only buy from you because they trust you.

They’ll never trust you if they don’t know you.

That being said, building an audience is good, but building an audience of people who want the same thing is where the money is. For instance, if you’re given the opportunity to sell an item to a room containing 1000 working class ladies what would sell? PS5 or skin care kit? Why? In affiliate marketing, you gather a group of people who want the same thing, before you can sell anything to them.

2. Money (Ego, Owo, Kudi). Very important. If you get it right, you’ll live like a king anywhere in the world. How much can one possibly make via Affiliate Marketing? – Limitless. It all depends on the commission you earn per unit sold and your strategy for selling them. Let me give you an example: There’s a product on expertnaire.com called 72IG. It’s sold NGN 45,000. For every unit of this product you’re able to sell, you’ll earn 50% commission i.e. NGN 22,500. So, if you’re able to sell 20 units per month, you’ll make 22,500 X 20 = 450,000 Naira per month. Compare this with what’s obtainable on Konga.com for instance where the affiliate commission is between 3-7% per unit sold. If you sell a TV for 50,000 Naira at 7% commission, you’ll be paid 3,500 Naira. Assuming you’re able to sell 20 TVs per month you’ll earn 3,500 X 20 = 70,000 Naira monthly. Spot the difference?

You have to put in the work to automate the process before you rest and count your blessings. Another important point is that you can do it from anywhere in the world. Location is not an issue because you’ll be selling a digital product.

  2. You need a proven system that guarantees success. Sure, you can figure things out yourself. But, you don’t have eternity to fulfil destiny. You need to follow a system that will 100% guarantee your success.
  3. You need a community of likeminded people. ‘Iron sharpens iron’. Who surrounds you determines what you can survive. You drastically increase your chances of success when you join a community where you are seen and cared for. Please, don’t be lost in the crowd. It’s tough out there.
  4. You need money. Yes. Free things don’t make people rich. If not, you would’ve finished that free online course you started last year🤣 . You need to invest your treasure (money) so that your heart will be there.
